America's Magnificent Carpet Award 2008
The most prestigious carpet awards in the world, American Magnificent Carpet Award goes to Turkey’s largest carpet manufacturer Çınar Halı for a second time.
Considered to be America’s most valuable carpet award, America’s Magnificent Carpet Awards is also known as the “Carpet Oscars” and Çınar Halı is proud to have received this award once again this year.
Hosted at Atlanta’s AmericasMart, the world’s largest carpet fair brought together manufacturers, designers, wholesalers and carpet enthusiasts from USA and several other countries.
The prime award given at AmericasMart fair in Atlanta was handed to Çınar Halı consecutively for a second year in front of an audience consisting of the prime representatives of the carpet manufacturing industry.
Carpets at the International Atlanta Carpet Fair competed in several categories and were examined and evaluated by world famous textile and design specialists. The most important award, “Consumer’s Choice Award”, was given to Çınar Halı who participated in the competition with the model “Sevgi Bağı (Love Tie)”, predominately featuring tones of green, from the Sultani collection.
The 1.98x2.70 m sized carpet was deigned by Pelin Ertuğrul, one of Çınar Halı’s prime designers. The design process took one month whilst production spanned over a whole year. The patterns of the carpet were reflected with ton-sur-ton colour transitions.
ÇINAR HALI, Always a strong contender for the Carpet Oscars
Çınar Halı participated in the fair for the first time last year but still managed to get the oscar once more this year. Manufacturing hand-woven carpets since 1935 Çınar Halı has rightfully become a brand known both domestically and internationally. As a company we are very proud to be considered worthy of the first prize for two consecutive years.
More than 200 carpet manufacturers competed in the 13 categories specified by the fair and received their category specific awards according to jury voting.
The most important award of the organisation, “Consumer’s Choice Award” was something much more special. This award was not only limited to jury votes. It also reflected votes from the world’s largest carpet manufacturers and renowned designers that participated in the fair.
Last years “Consumer’s Choice Award” was given to Çınar Halı’s silk carpet also from the Sultani collection.
The Story of the Award Winning Carpet
Every carpet woven by Çınar Halı has a story behind it. The carpet seen worthy of this year’s award was based on the concept of love.
The wives, lovers and mothers bidding their husbands and sons going to war farewell would wrap their scarves around the men’s necks and tie a knot. This tradition had two meanings; firstly the men would remember their loved ones every time they saw this scarf, secondly the women believed this special knot would protect their men from harm and evil.
Actually, women tying a scarf round men’s necks destined for war in those days is unbelievably similar to today’s women giving that final touch to men’s ties going to work each morning. Regardless of all those centuries…
Mehmet Çınar talks about the conceptualisation of this carpet:
That is the main theme of this carpet. The carpet features patterns reminiscent of modern day ties. We took the tie as a symbol of love and transcended the love, passion and beliefs of women of all languages and religions onto this carpet. We represented the notion of love being stronger than all feelings and the belief that it protects our loved ones and us with the sun woven into the centre of the carpet.
Based on the necktie we named this carpet “Sevgi Bağı (Love Tie)”.
